Since I lasted post here, I’ve been to Hull and back. Always wanted to say that! Hull was far from hellish on this occasion, however, and thanks are due to the various relatives who put me up, gave me lifts, and provided food, drink and a fab party. Far more scary than the City of 1001 Chip [...]

Get this — I just received spam from the future, an email from the cunningly named “discountwa” in Russia, dated Monday 6 August 2012! Spooky. But a great way to get to the top of your target’s in-box. I never open spam, so I can’t tell you how genuine Rolex watch design will advance over the next [...]

We had a great day out at Lord’s yesterday, watching the second day of the first Pakistan v Australia test match. Tuesday is study day. I am trying to alternate writing and OU work, so I don’t fall behind (too much) on my course. Less than nine weeks to the exam! But great writing-related news — I have been offered the General Medicine Feature Writer position on Suite101 (subject to Managing Editor approval, so don’t spread it [...]
On Friday evening we went to see El Tanbura (an Egyptian “collective of veteran master musicians, singers, fishermen and Sufi philosophers”) at the Wesley Memorial Chapel in Oxford. “A great venue for dancing” as it says in the blurb, and indeed it is. I was the second ‘lucky lady’ to be plucked from the audience [...]
We treated our car to a new aerial topper this week, retiring the previous incumbent to the Curtain Rail Of Shame (which resembles a Black Sea sanitorium for worn-out party officials — except for being a curtain rail, and nowhere near the coast). All of our previous toppers are resident there, having come to the [...]
