During this enforced break from my WIP, I’ve been occupying myself with all sorts of useful and important activities. Watching TV ads, for example. Like this one… I’m fond of hedgehogs; we have them in our garden and like nothing better than watching them toddle around the flowerbeds on warm summer nights. (I’m less fond [...]

What a lot of tennis fans we have here! When I mused about grades of fame and the royal box at Wimbledon back in 2010, Scribblings had its highest page view count ever. And now, 18 months later, when I focus on that fine sport again, page views go through the roof. (We do have [...]

I love it when a tennis match turns into an all-day event. I got up and had my breakfast early so I could watch (and later listen to) the Australian Open Men’s Final from Melbourne this morning – and was still engrossed in the battle (the longest Grand Slam tournament final by almost an hour) [...]

I said in my last post, I’d get Baby Bagpuss moving – now watch him go! …Well, listen to him meow, as he rides Hubby’s back on his first expedition into the great outdoors. He was too scared to walk for himself, as if the grass (or moss – this is our garden we’re talking about) were some [...]

I’m disappointed with the attitude of the UK national teams to this year’s Commonwealth Games in Delhi. First, a load of “top” athletes decide they don’t want to go because they’re “tired” or “scared”, or they want to concentrate on next year’s World Championships (read: “I’m too important for this piddly little event”), or the dog [...]

We had a great day out at Lord’s yesterday, watching the second day of the first Pakistan v Australia test match. I’m not a regular cricket spectator, but had a fun time seeing eleven wickets fall (including the whole of Pakistan’s first innings) and would have seen another four if we hadn’t left early to beat the rush. Apart [...]
I was going to write about yesterday’s World Cup Final, but lost heart after reading this. Humans are truly the worst of all animals. Bookmark on Delicious Digg this post Recommend on Facebook Share on Linkedin share via Reddit Share with Stumblers Tweet about it Print for later Tell a friend
…in the form of referee Howard Webb, that is, together with his assistants Michael Mullarkey and Darren Cann. I can see the British media paying more attention to the officials than the teams in the run-up to the final, and probably during it, too. Remember when Owen Hargreaves played for Bayern Munich in the Champions League Final? [...]
While watching the Men’s Singles Final from Wimbledon this afternoon, and spotting the likes of Ronnie Wood and Sir Trevor McDonald in the Royal Box, I started wondering how they decide who gets to sit in those comfy-looking green wicker chairs with their matching cushions. Obviously, if I turned up at SW19, strawberries and (dairy-free) cream in one sweaty [...]
Auf Wiedersehen, England! The knockout blow has come, and it was as inevitable as it was ignominious. I’m just glad they lost by more than a single goal; they would have been complaining about that disallowed one for the next forty years if they hadn’t. And now the inquest begins — I’m looking forward to at least a fortnight of [...]
