About
Welcome to my website!
My name is Wendy and I am a freelance writer, editor, proofreader and would-be novelist based in the Oxfordshire market town of Abingdon-on-Thames. I live there with my husband, two giant African land snails and three cats (one of whom is very poorly, so please send happy thoughts his way).
I grew up in the city of Kingston upon Hull in the North of England, then studied at St Hilda’s College, Oxford, where I gained Bachelor of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in zoology. After a brief career in market research, I joined the Medicine Publishing Company (now an imprint of Elsevier Health Sciences) in 1994, working as a Staff Editor on medical education and marketing publications. In 1998, I was promoted to Managing Editor of the journal Medicine, a post I held until I tired of office life and started my own editing and proofreading business in 2006.
I began freelance writing on the web in 2009, as a Contributing Writer for the online magazine Suite101.com. I became Feature Writer in General Medicine for Suite101 in August 2009 and am now a regular contributor to other sites.
As a fan of life-long learning, I’m currently studying for a Bachelor of Science degree with The Open University, specializing in Cosmology and Quantum Physics. I also struggle endlessly to write fiction, and to keep up The Vegan Cat-Lover – my blog on veganism, speciesism and feline friends.
